In this paper we investigate the Proca field in the framework of Loop
Quantum Gravity. By introducing an auxiliary (non-Higgs) scalar field,
we arrive at a theory with first class constraints. This makes possible
a rigorous, consistent, non-perturbative quantization of the Proca
field.
