The current status of the nucleosynthesis of the light nuclides D, He-3, Li-6, Li-7, Be-9, B-10, and B-11 is reviewed on the basis of a survey of the literature. It is shown that their abundance in nature is appreciably smaller than that of the neighboring nuclides. Their relative overabundance in cosmic radiation may be attributed to spallation processes in space. While deuterium may be regarded as a big-bang remnant, the rest of the nuclides may be treated with high probability as products of spallation reactions. This view is supported by spallation-reaction yields obtained in the laboratory with He, C, N. O, and Ne nuclei.
