The competition between the pairing state and the SDW state is investigated with the Hubbard model. It is shown that the SDW favors the large enough on-site interaction at an appropriate low temperature, while the pairing favors the appropriate on-site interaction at a low enough temperature. This can explain the features of Cu-based superconductors in underdoped and optimally doped regions. Some other phenomena are also explained.
