Over 4000 stars have been observed using the Vilnius Photometric System since its establishment in the 1960s. Unfortunately for southern observers, none of these stars are further south than declination -26°. To remedy this situation, suitable brigth southern stars are being observed by Victoria University and Carter Observatory. The Vilnius filters and their use for deriving the absolute magnitude, spectral type, distance and reddening of a star (without needing spectroscopic observations) will first be described, followed by a report on the observations to date.
