The dynamics and fine scale structure of the transition region between the chromosphere and the corona above sunspots was investigated. The fine structure of the flowfield in the transition region was determined from CIV line profiles. Data analysis methods and observed line profiles are presented. The observed line profiles show several distinct velocity components. The spatial distribution of velocities and time variations in the fine structure of the velocity field are discussed. Evidence for the existence of multiple flows is presented. The presence of multiple flows suggests that transition regions above sunspots have a sub-arc-second fine structure which may consist of fine fibrils. Explanations of the net downward directed mass flux are suggested.
