We show that Soft Gamma Repeaters share five distinctive statistical properties with earthquakes. The shared characteristics are (1) power law energy distributions, (2) log symmetric waiting time distributions, (3) strong positive correlations between the waiting times of consecutive events, (4) weak or no correlations between intensities and waiting times, and (5) ``after-shock'' behavior in which strong events are closely followed by weaker ones. We argue that some process, such as magnetic field restructuring, continuously builds up stress in a neutron star crust and that SGRs correspond to cracking/slipping events that release the stress.
