Radio Telescopes: Control Systems
Scientific paper
The coordinates of the ends of a line feed or some kind of feed system and their traces during the spherical radio telescope tracking a radio source are important in designing the computer controlled platformless tracking system. Basic relations and formulae will be deduced and given in some specified coordinate systems. The feed-end coordinates and their tracking speed in the Cartesian coordinates with the origin located at the apex of the spherical reflector will be analysed and illustrated by means of MathCAD software. Finally the tolerance in tracking and pointing is briefly discussed and a suggestion to use a concept of the virtual axis in computer-controlled tracking system is made.
