Interacting Galaxies: Orbital Evolution

Scientific paper

The orbital decay of interacting galaxies is investigated using a perfect three-dimensional model of binary galaxies in which the author considers the sphere of activity of test star for both the central galaxy and the satellite galaxy and take account of both "semi-restricted N-body" program (Lin & Tremaine 1983) and "multiple three-body algorithm" (Borne 1984) at the same time. He calculates accurately the orbital decay rate according to Chandrasekhar (1943) dynamical friction formula and studies the energy and angular momentum which are carried away by escaping stars.
