The two variable expansion method is used to show that the triangular equilibrium points in the planar restricted problem of three bodies are unstable at µ=µ2=0.024293.... It is also shown that even though the equilibrium points are stable for µ≈µ2 finite motions in the neighborhood of the equilibrium points may be unstable.
