By measuring the vertical component of velocity in the height range 70-90 km above Tromsø (69°N, 19°E), with a 1 km height resolution, we are able to estimate vertical wavenumber spectra. From time averages of these spectra we are able to identify characteristic wavenumbers, m*, which in turn, using well-established theory, may be interpreted in terms of wave energy and energy deposition rate.
