The tabulated 'Hough mode extension' (HME) functions were applied to results of Forbes and Vial (1989) on the solar semidiurnal tide at 100 km, to obtain values up to 150 km. Model predictions obtained for global monthly and seasonally averaged semidiurnal temperatures and winds between 80 and 150 km were compared with measurements in the E region performed with the Arecibo, Chatanika, Millstone Hill, and Sonderstrom incoherent scatter radars. Results of monthly simulations show evidence of close coupling between seasonal and latitudinal structures. Results of a comparison of measurements with model predictions showed some amplitude and phase discrepancies.
