The stability of a barium ion cloud in the ionosphere with respect to
the development of irregularities on a scale of less than 100 m is
analyzed on the basis of a numerical solution of the dispersion equation
for potential plasma oscillations. Conditions for the development of
instabilities with increments of 0.5-10/s are examined.
