The paper presents results of the modeling of F-scatter ionograms using ray-tracing synthesis methods, determining the dependence of different traces on the ionograms on the irregularity parameters responsible for their appearance. The main types of ionograms for scattering with respect to frequency and height are obtained for models of large-scale irregularities. A mechanism for the appearance of F-scatter at midlatitudes is proposed which involves the equatorward propagation of large-scale TIDs generated in the evening and nighttime sectors of the auroral zone.
