We propose to observe two supernova remnants in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), SNR 0534-69.9 and DEM L 316A, thereby completing the sample of known Type Ia remnants in the LMC observed by XMM-Newton. Our goal is to use the X-ray spectra to measure physical conditions in these SNRs. A detailed analysis of the emission from these objects also provides valuable information on their chemical structure, which is linked to the explosion mechanism. We will compare the observed X-ray spectra with spectra calculated from hydrodynamical models. As a sample, the LMC Type Ia remnants will allow us to constrain the parameters of thermonuclear explosion scenarios.
