Scientific paper

We propose a 250 ks Chandra HETGS observation of the Seyfert 1 galaxy Markarian 290, in order to assess the warm absorber and soft excess known to exist in this source. This will allow us to determine the ionization state and kinematics of the absorber, and assess whether the X-ray absorber/emitter has any association with the UV-absorbing gas that has been seen from FUSE observations of this source. The HETGS spectra will also allow us to probe the origin of the fluorescent Fe K emission in this source.
