We propose a 5 ksec Chandra LETGS observation of 3C 279. The X-ray observation will be part of an intense multiwavelength campaign to observe this source *simultaneously* at all wavelengths, including a very deep INTEGRAL observation. The X-ray part should not be missing in this campaign. The ultimate goal is to understand the emission mechanisms of this source, and this class of objects. We do not consider this observation a conflict with a previous Chandra HETG observation of 3C 279, because that observation will not be simulatneous to the multiwavelength campaign, and because we are particularly interested in the soft energy part which is best observed with LETG.
