At the end of June, the European and US space agencies agreed to work together to set up a framework for exploration of Mars. Both bodies have been under pressure; international collaboration is seen as the best way forward.
The ESA MetOp satellite has provided the data for researchers to produce the first global map of ammonia emissions. The map shows high production over areas of intensive agriculture, as well as sources not previously known.
