We propose to monitor the ground-state OH emission of 12.889+0.489, a source whose associated 6.7-GHz and 12.2-GHz methanol masers are known to be periodically variable. The methanol transitions demonstrate a period of 29.5 days, suggestive of a binary system involved in the mechanism of the maser emission. As the two species of maser are believed to have similar pumping mechanisms, we expect the ground-state OH emission to demonstrate similar periodicity. The current proposal will test these expectations. Observing the ground-state OH transitions towards this intriguing source will also allow us to monitor the polarisation and magnetic field properties of the source.
