Relativistic Stars: Structure, Stability, And Oscillations, Numerical Relativity

Scientific paper

A fully constrained-evolution scheme for 3 + 1 numerical relativity is proposed recently by Bonazzola et al.. [Phys. Rev. D 70, 104007 (2004)]. The scheme makes the joint use of the Dirac gauge, maximal slicing, and spherical components of tensor fields. We describe here a new numerical code for computing stationary axisymmetric rotating stars in general relativity within this framework. The code can be used to generate rotating-star initial data for hydrodynamics simulations within the proposed constrained-evolution scheme.
