It has been shown that it is possible to employ the time-symmetric solution of the Maxwell equations when assuming the source to be surrounded by a sufficient amount of matter. In this case the total absorption of the field of the source leads to a transformation of the symmetric solution into a fully delayed one. The cause of radiative friction here is the corresponding absorber field. The present study examines whether it is possible to obtain an analogous result for gravitational interactions described by the Einstein equations. The validity of the absorber theory for the Einstein equations is demonstrated in the first approximation in the framework of the static universe model.
