G-prolongation of exterior differential systems is motivated from the geometry of tangent bundles. Applied to systems for Ricci-flat 4-geometries it allows specialized moving frame formulations for cases when these geometries are to have one or more isometries. Calculation of Cartan characters shows these prolonged and specialized systems to still have the causal property: generic solutions are determined by initial data set on 3-surfaces.
