In order to investigate the possible composition of the impacting body that formed the Strangways Crater, and variations in composition of melt rocks due to impact-induced volatilization, six siderophile trace elements (Os, Re, Ir, Ni, Pd, and Au) and three volatile elements (Ag, Cd, and Se) were determined by radiochemical neutron-activation analysis in seven samples of melt rocks (six granitic melts and one identified as a shale melt) and in four samples of country rock: granite, shale, quartzite, and amphibolite. Additional data were collected on the same samples by instrumental neutron activation analysis.
