Meteors: Infrared Spectra, Perseids, Geminids

Scientific paper

Near-infrared spectra of 10 meteors were obtained in August and December 1985. Of these, seven meteors belong to the Perseids. In a brief analysis of the brightest Perseid member, 14 spectral lines are measured, and 13 lines are identified as the infrared multiplets of N I, O I and Ca II. The N I and O I multiplets probably originate from the Earth atmosphere.
