The telescope, its eyepiece and distortion are described, and the features that should be verified are listed. A knife-edge method of measuring optical parameters is selected, and attention is focused on evaluation of the off-axis performance of the telescope in the areas of resolution, magnification, distortion, and vignetting. An approach for collecting the parallel light from the afocal telescope and presenting it to the knife edge is discussed; it involves a simple reference lens as long as the input angle and reference-lens angle to the telescope pupil are known. The knife edge is carried by three computer stepper motors. A procedure for testing a wide-angle telescope is presented.
