In this paper, we argue that excursions are distinct phenomena that form
a part of the spectrum of geomagnetic field oscillations. A model of the
magnetochronostratigraphic scale of the Brunhes chron is proposed which
is based on twelve excursions. The characteristics of some excursions
can be used for their identification
