Daytime aurora has been detected from the ground using a spectral scanning polar-imeter employed earlier for measurement of the day airglow. Observations made at Fort Churchill, Manitoba during December 1962 revealed intensities for the green (5577 Å) and red (6300 Å) lines of oxygen of up to 30 kR on a magnetically disturbed day; subsequent observations on a quiet day gave intensities for both lines of less than 2 kR. The daytime aurora was not accompanied by radar echoes.
