As a by-product of an investigation of the environments of powerful radio sources, R magnitudes have been estimated from CCD images for 23 3C radio galaxies and quasars. Although not as accurate as those measured during rigorous photometric investigations, they are considerably more so than estimates from the Palomar Sky Survey or from deep photographic plates. An accurate position has been obtained for the radio galaxy 3C 268.3. The Hubble diagram of 3C radio galaxies is briefly discussed.
