Models of the universe are exhibited for which the vacuum energy density of the quantum fields can be large enough to close the universe. This vacuum density is nonzero because of the spacetime curbature. It is shown that the relationship between the matter density, Hubble's constant and the deceleration parameter is different from that predicted by classical general relativity. For many models this difference is on the verge of being observable.
