The interaction between the solar wind and the earth's magnetosphere is investigated theoretically on the basis of the solution of the MHD equation. Corrections to the gasdynamic flow due to the magnetic field are obtained on using an analytical expression for the Ampere force obtained in the zeroth, kinematic approximation. The total pressure across the dissipative region in the vicinity of the magnetopause is shown to be conserved.
