The possibility that the Li abundance gap in the Hyades F stars is due to chemical separation below the convection zones is invesitgated. Calculations of the diffusion of Li in stars with T(eff) between 6000 and 7200 K and gravities appropriate for the main sequence are presented, and the effect of the disappearance of the He convection zone is discussed. The radiative acceleration on Li is calculated in detail to determine the range of effective temperatures over which Li is supported and the range over which it sinks. The diffusion time scale is compared to the evolutionary age of the Hyades in order to determine the anomalies to which diffusion has time to lead. The implications of this model for stellar hydrodynamics are discussed, and the model is shown to impose strict limits on the mass-loss rate and to determine rather precisely the ratio of the mixing length to pressure scale height.
