With reference to the space missions to comet Halley, its position uncertainty for mid March 1986 is investigated. Without light biases in the observations, one can expect a position uncertainty of approximately 100 km, and in cases of light shifts which cannot be modelled, up to 700 km. The light shift between the center of light or the image center and the nucleus of the comet is the largest source of uncertainty, the nongravitational forces are of negligible importance compared to this. With increased observational effort during the first part of March 1986, the accuracy can improve significantly. A source of large systematic errors are the differences between the reference system for astrometric observations (FK4) and earth coordinates (DE 118) and the navigation frame of the space probes which should be corrected.
