The new data set in magnetospheric physics and its open data source policy allows one to conduct studies as soon as the data being collected. This is a radical departure from the old days where years can go by before such studies can be attempted. We conduct a search for transient dayside auroral events as seen by the IMAGE FUV auroral imager and the corresponding signatures near the magnetopause as observed by the Geotail satellite as it crossed or skim the magnetopause. The behavior of these auroral transient events can help to distinguish the proposed driving mechanisms for such events near the magnetopause.
