A comparison is made between the flare responses of the SOLRAD 11 satellite's detectors with those of the comparable NOAA SMS/GOES detectors, for two periods of common observations. While GOES fluxes are greater than those of SOLRAD 11 by a factor of about 1.5-2.0 in the 0.5-4.0 A band, they fall below the SOLRAD 1.0-8.0 A band fluxes by a factor of about 2-4; passband differences account for these discrepant detector responses. These conversion factors are noted to allow SOLRAD flare observations to function as 'proxies' for GOES X-ray observations prior to July, 1974.
