A system of equations is presented which is more convenient in describing strongly nonlinear short-wavelength low-frequency atmospheric oscillations than the standard system of continuity, momentum, and entropy equations governing atmospheric waves. The equations are simpler, but are still able to take into account all the essential features of fluid motion. Four different examples are presented employing different parameter regimes for the angular velocity of the earth. It is shown that various kinds of acousto-gravity solitary vortices can exist.
