In November and December 1979 the solar 10.7 cm radio flux density, sunspot number, X-ray flux and EUV flux were high and very variable. The day-to-day variations of noon F2-layer height and E-layer electron density at three ionosonde stations (Slough, Port Stanley and Huancayo) are found to be well correlated with the day-to-day variations of solar activity. The short-term E- and F-layer variations are consistent with those derived from longer-term studies.
