The characteristics of a 500-MHz bandwidth, 1-MHz resolution acoustooptical spectrometer (AOS) built for the 30-m radiotelescope in Granada (Spain) are described. The performance of the AOS was evaluated in tests using several 'equivalent' spectrometers which analyzed in parallel the same IF signals coming from the radiotelescope. The results showed that the AOS is fully qualified for high-sensitivity broadband millimeter radioastronomy. The main advantages of the AOS are the wide band, the compactness, and low cost.
