The paper examines the hypothesis that the geometry of solar wind flow lines which vary with solar activity is the basic factor which determines slow changes of solar wind parameters with time. It was shown that basic relationships of solar wind parameters in the region of earth's orbit can be explained by a model which considers that expansion of the solar corona is not radial; the flow lines focus toward the helioequator during periods of low solar activity with a gradual transition to radial expansion during periods of high solar activity.
