New measurements of light ions in the topside ionosphere over Arecibo and Jicamarca will be presented. We will discuss the altitude and temporal variations of the three major ion species in the topside ionosphere (O+, H+, and He+). The ISR backscatter from Arecibo spectra were reduced using a non-linear least squares fitting algorithm which allowed for Te, Ti, [O+], [H+], and [He+] to be free simultaneously. At some ranges we can also determine independent proton and oxygen ion temperatures and velocities. In addition, the fitting for the Jicamarca data allows for the effects of electron coulomb collisions on the ISR backscatter spectrum. This is important as neglecting the effect of these collisions introduces a bias in the temperatures. The Arecibo Observatory is located at 18o N. Although this is a low geographic latitude it corrresponds to about 50o dip latitude, Jicamarca on the other hand is near the dip equator. At both sites the altitude coverage is from about 300 to over 2000 km. The Arecibo topside data have been collected regularly since 1994, we will also show examples of the results obtained at Jicamarca in the last few years.
