The great geomagnetic storm of Bastille Day 2000 causes severely anomalous behavior in the ionosphere at the low and equatorial latitudes. We examine the total electron content (TEC) derived from the Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers at KDNM (21.8XN, 120.8XE) and PIMO (14.6XN, 121.1XE) and ionogram data recorded by a digisonde at Chung-Li (24.9XN, 121XE) to understand the ionospheric response to this storm. The negative and positive phase of storm and a large upward plasma drift reveals the displacement of the equatorial ionization anomaly (EIA) crest to be very unusual. Furthermore, the explanations of electric fields penetrating from high to low latitudes and composition changes for the observations are discussed.
