Scientific paper

In this review I describe the basic properties of white dwarfs and their
pulsations. I then discuss some of the areas in which the pulsations can
provide meaningful results, such as internal chemical profiles, possible
emission of ``exotic'' particles, planet detection, crystallization,
convection, accretion, and cosmochronology.
