The factorized form for distorted wave excitation collision strengths is applied to electron capture and the inverse process of auto-ionization, which are needed in obtaining dielectric recombination rates and the resonance contribution to excitation rates. Two simplifying approximations are considered and the corresponding formulae are obtained. Some numerical tests of accuracy are given for the relatively simple case of electron capture by He-like ions.
