The current state of knowledge of coronal loop systems is discussed, and a brief summary is given of observations which will be required to investigate further the structure and energy balance of active solar regions. Problems concerning the source of heating for the hot plasma must be solved, and a greater understanding of energy transport and dissipation mechanisms is needed. Finally, the apparent pressure structure and life-times of the coronal loops must be examined in greater detail to discover their influence on loop stability.
