"Intercosmos-Bulgaria 1300", the second satellite to carry Bulgarian geophysical instruments, was designed to provide information about physical phenomena occurring in near-Earth space. Electron-ion processes which exert an energetic effect on the lower layers of the atmosphere and influence meteorological conditions were of concern. Study of convection movements of ionospheric plasma and their relation to phenomena in other zones of the Earth's magnetosphere and in planetary space, investigations of turbulence phenomena in the near-Earth plasma, detection and study of inhomogeneities in the ionospheric plasma and of dynamic links between the ionosphere and the magnetosphere and measurements during heightened solar activity were made. Total electromagnetic compatibility of all of the scientific satellite apparatus and high experiment fidelity was accomplished. Soviet specialists devised a technical solution by developing a system of multiple-joint boom devices so that instruments could be positioned up to 5 meters away from the body of the satellite. Special coatings were developed and used for the body, the instruments, and solar batteries. The problem of heat elimination from instruments operating in open space was also solved.
