Six algorithms and approximations for the calculation of Voigt profiles are compared for accuracy and time required for calculation. The Gautschi program is recommended for high-precision calculations due to its good accuracy, and when a few percent error is acceptable in the Voigt profile, both the Kielkopf and Matvejev approximations may be used jointly to yield reasonable accuracy and high-speed calculations. In all other cases the Drayson program is useful.
