A detector system consisting of eight telescopes for light particle and cluster identification is described. It operates in conjunction with the 4π detector at SIS/ESR, spanning a range of polar angles from 6° up to 90°. The telescopes identify the atomic number Z and, for particles of Z <= 5, also the mass number A over a large energy range, from about 10 A MeV up to 300-600 A MeV, depending on the charge of the detected particle.
