In order to interprete Mars spectrophotometry data obtained during the KRFM experiment (Phobos mission), a study is made of the effect of the nonspherical shape of aerosol particles on the phase scattering function. The application of the Mie theory at an earlier processing stage suggested the presence of Fe2O3 in the Martian surface material. The principal conclusion of the present study is that the presence of such an absorber is necessary for any particle shape, although the quantitative estimate of its content may be lower for irregular particles than for spherical particles.
