We show that if the late stages in the nakedly singular collapse of a radiating fluid sphere are treated within the framework of a composite ("bootstrap") model of strongly interacting particles then the end state need only be instantaneously singular. This is in contrast to the elementary-particle description which does not allow a smooth continuation of the external field onto Minkowski space.
