Halos are diffuse black spots at the center of certain gamma superfamilies in cosmic ray showers. This paper describes an experimental investigation of the halos of superfamilies with total energies greater than 250 TeV performed using densitometric image scanning of X-ray emulsion chamber films. The correlation between the total energy of gamma quanta in a family and the number of electrons in a halo at the N3 level is investigated. It is shown that if the formation of a halo is associated with a scaling-type interaction with low energy dissipation between secondary particles, then the fraction of the total cross section for this channel at energies greater than 10 to the 16th eV does not exceed 8%.
