The origin of the relatively large flux of antiprotons observed in cosmic rays is discussed. It is suggested that the most probable explanation for the occurrence of this large flux is the presence of thick sources (20-100 g/sq cm) with a high proton-generating capacity; the nucleus of the Galaxy in its active stage might be such a source. A method is proposed for estimating the contribution of local sources to the concentration of cosmic rays observed at the earth.
