A preliminary attempt to associate a geomagnetic event with the observed 51-hr periodicity of mesospheric winds is presented. Attention was given to the declination (D) component of the geomagnetic field, and D values from 1919-45 and 1964-65 were analyzed in conjunction with data on bi-diurnal mesospheric winds. A statistical investigation of connections between the D variations and the 10-20 day mesospheric wind variations yielded inconclusive results. It is suggested that since the bi-diurnal mesospheric winds have been observed at 90 km altitude, they are not high enough to be affected by the 130 km altitude region of maximum ionospheric conductivity.
